Kumho Petrochemicalmounts a challenge of zero energy waste.
On August 27th,Kumho Petrochemical (Chairman & CEO Chan-Koo Park) announced a plan for the“TDF Fly Ash Production Network Research”. This is the national project of establishinga construction material production network based on the TDF (Tire-derived Fuel)fly ash.
This research is to recyclefly ash into construction materials by reprocessing the fly ash that remainsafter incinerating the TDF, a fuel for the Yeosu Cogeneration Power Plant ofKumho Petrochemical. This research project is scheduled to be completed by Junenext year.
The purpose of theresearch is to develop a resource recycling model. Most of the TDF fly ash hasbeen buried in landfills until now. However, in the future, there will be a newproduction network that will lead to the collection, reprocessing, and sales ofthe TDF fly ash. The petrochemical company anticipates that this new projectwill reduce the costs of energy-derived waste treatment by up to 50%.
Kumho Petrochemical entered the energy market after establishing the 1stYeosu Cogeneration Power Plant in 1997. Since then, it has expanded itsbusiness by building the 2nd Yeosu Cogeneration Power Plant in 2009.The 2nd power plant, which is under capacity expansion scheduled tobe completed in the first half of next year, uses the TDF as a fuel source. Therefore,this research is expected to serve as a core link in the establishment of a sustainable growth model of Kumho Petrochemical.
